RESOLUTION NO. __________
Title
A resolution supporting Governor Bobby Jindal and Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser in their request for permits to construct sand berms to protect the coastline from oil contamination from the Mississippi Canyon 252 Oil Spill.
Body
WHEREAS,      the Mississippi Canyon 252 Oil Spill has contaminated over 100 miles of the State of Louisiana's coastline; and,
WHEREAS,      oil covered wildlife, compromised barrier islands, and crude-polluted marshlands are becoming more and more prevalent; and,
WHEREAS,      Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has requested the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to approve the permits for a $350 million plan to use dredged sand to rebuild the State's barrier islands as a natural buffer against the advancing oil; and,
WHEREAS,      the Federal Authorities are proceeding with the permit through normal channels, but because of the impending catastrophic consequences, which will affect the Louisiana coastline, there is a need to expedite the permitting process.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST.
