RESOLUTION NO.

Title

A resolution to declare the St. Charles Parish Council’s and Parish President’s support of and solidarity with all law enforcement personnel across these great United States, and to recognize and honor all of the men and women who currently serve or who have served as law enforcement officers, and in particular those who serve or have served in St. Charles Parish and the State of Louisiana.

Body

WHEREAS,                     recent events throughout our nation have unfortunately demonstrated a reckless disregard for the lives and safety of law enforcement officers by many, including some public officials and other high profile individuals, who have cavalierly aligned themselves with community agitators and community activist who seek to divide many of those in our communities and our nation; and,

WHEREAS,                     even worse, much of the news media along with certain public officials and other public figures have perpetuated a number of false narratives that appear to have made law enforcement officers direct targets of reprisals and which may have resulted in the indiscriminate assassination of a number of law enforcement officers throughout the country in recent weeks; and,

WHEREAS,                     from combating terror, staking out criminals, to patrolling our highways and responding to those in need, law enforcement officers maintain stability in our community and their presence promotes peace and order resulting in more safe and secure communities and a safer nation; and,

WHEREAS,                     law enforcement officers in the State of Louisiana and those throughout our great nation are routinely called upon to serve and protect their fellow citizens by responding to horrendous events and acting heroically to save the lives of others while putting their own lives and safety at risk; and,

WHEREAS,                     from time to time, there are a miniscule number of law enforcement officers who step outside their bounds during their service and these officers are to be called out and are to be held to account for their actions through the greatest and most fair legal system in the world; and

WHEREAS,                     it is incumbent upon all public officials and every member of our society to proactively support our law enforcement officers who regularly face threats of violence and danger, and routinely put their lives in jeopardy to defend others potentially resulting in injury, disability, or even death to keep our neighborhoods safe, enforce the rules of law, protect our property, and respond in times of crisis; and,

WHEREAS,                     a number of residents of St. Charles Parish are members of the law enforcement community who dedicate their lives and well-being to their official duties in order to protect and serve the citizenry of this State; and,

WHEREAS,                     St. Charles Parish is extremely grateful to all those who currently serve and for all those who have served in the past.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby declare the St.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Sheriff Greg Champagne, Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Louisiana State Police, Sheriff Mike Waguespack, Louisiana Sheriff’s Association President, Governor Bobby Jindal, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Speaker John Boehner, Federal Bureau of Investigations Director James Comey, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Acting Director Thomas E.
