IN   RECOGNITION

WHEREAS,                     Kennedy Ertel is a resident of St. Charles Parish residing in Luling, Louisiana, with her parents Stacey and Daniel Ertel; and,

WHEREAS,                     Kennedy is a 2021 graduate of University View Academy and is currently a student at the University of New Orleans; and,

WHEREAS,                     Kennedy is a Girl Scout Senior with Girl Scout Troop 20019.  She received the Gold Award in 2021 for her project “Community Sharing Libraries” by constructing a free library at the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Luling; and,

WHEREAS,                     Kennedy is one of four local Girl Scouts who have recently earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor a Senior or Ambassador can achieve; and,

WHEREAS,                     the Girl Scout Gold Award inspires girls to find the greatness inside themselves and share their ideas and passions with their communities.  It requires the completion of a combination of several leadership journeys, which involve activities allowing the Girl Scout to discover herself and her values, team with others, and take action in the community.  Upon completion of these requirements, she must plan and execute a community service project that reaches beyond the Girl Scout organization and provides a sustainable, lasting benefit to the community; and,

WHEREAS,                     Kennedy spent a minimum of 80 hours to establish a free library in Luling which is open to the public and allows anyone to take a book or leave a book for the next person who stops by, to make reading more accessible to people in her community and promote recycling and resource-sharing; and,

WHEREAS,                     the Girl Scout Gold Award gives Kennedy the chance to show her prestigious honor of being a leader who is organized and dedicated to improving her community. Earning the award puts her among an exceptional group of girls who have changed the world for good by tackling issues dear to their hearts while driving lasting change in their communities and beyond.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this tribute and recognition to
