IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, the Louisiana REALTORS® is celebrating its 100th anniversary of being the trusted voice of real estate in Louisiana; and,
WHEREAS, in the year 1919, real estate boards in Alexandria, New Orleans, and Shreveport came together to create the statewide association that is today known as Louisiana REALTORS®; and,
WHEREAS, in the year 1920, R.R. Emery of Shreveport became the first president of the Louisiana REALTORS® and the process of building the real estate profession in Louisiana was begun; and,
WHEREAS, the early and current Louisiana REALTORS® governing documents provide that the purpose of the association is “to promote and maintain the highest standards of conduct in the real estate transaction” and “to promote the welfare of the real estate business, property owners, . . . and in general, the good people of Louisiana”; and,
WHEREAS, one of the first accomplishments of Louisiana REALTORS® was advocating on behalf of the enactment of Act 236 of 1920, which created what is now known as the Louisiana Real Estate Commission to regulate the affairs and business of real estate in a manner to protect consumers in real estate transactions; and,
WHEREAS, in the year 1946, the Louisiana REALTORS® was accepted as a member of the National Association of REALTORS®; a national association of over 1.1 million members with the purpose of raising the standards of real estate practice and preserving the right of property ownership in the interest of the public welfare; and,
WHEREAS, since 1919 the members of Louisiana REALTORS® have worked as tireless advocates for the real estate industry and the people of Louisiana by ensuring that laws were passed to require the examination and licensing of brokers and salespersons, to provide for equal opportunity for housing and to prohibit taxes on the transfer of property, all of which serve to protect the public; and,
WHEREAS, since 1919 Louisiana REALTORS® has provided a facility for education, research, and the exchange of information for those engaged in the real estate business and served to promote the interest, dignity, and character of the real estate business in Louisiana; and,
WHEREAS, St. Charles Parish does hereby commend Louisiana REALTORS® more than 14,000 members statewide for their work for the people of Louisiana and the real estate industry and congratulates them for being the trusted voice of real estate in Louisiana for the past 100 years and many more years to come.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby commend and recognize:
