                     July 24, 2006

IN   RECOGNITION

 

WHEREAS,                     St. Charles Parish Special Olympic Athletes and three Coaches attended the First Special Olympics USA National Games in Ames, Iowa on July 2 through July 7, 2006; and,

 

WHEREAS,                     the games were attended by 2,750 Athletes and 842 Coaches from across our Nation, including 81 Athletes and 21 Coaches in attendance from Louisiana; of those, 4 Athletes and 3 Coaches were from St. Charles Parish; and,

 

WHEREAS,                     with over 5,900 family members in attendance to cheer on the athletes, the games were opened with the lighting of the Flame of Hope and the theme for the week was "Compete-Empower-Unite" which was demonstrated by everyone who attended; and,

 

WHEREAS,                     these St. Charles Parish Special Olympic Athletes and Coaches are avid participants in the St. Charles Parish Recreation Special Olympics Program; and,

 

WHEREAS,                     The St. Charles Parish Council and Parish President wish to recognize the following Athletes:  Steve Ackerman, Norco - Silver Medal 50-meter free style, Silver Medal 50-meter breaststroke; Douglas J. Gilder, Paradis - Gold Medal Running Long Jump, Bronze Medal 200-meter run, and 5th Place Ribbon 100-meter run; Ron Davis, Hahnville - Gold Medal - Team Louisiana Softball; and Darrin Scott Mouton, Luling - Gold Medal - Team Louisiana Softball; and,

 

WHEREAS,                     The St. Charles Parish Council and Parish President sincerely believe that this activity will foster the goals of our Parish and will encourage and uplift the spirits of our Special Olympics Program; and,

 

WHEREAS,                     because of the dedication and devotion of the Coaches listed below, participation in these events and the Special Olympics Program in St. Charles Parish is such a success.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY CONGRATULATE ALL ST. CHARLES PARISH SPECIAL OLYMPIC ATHLETES AND COACHES FOR THEIR PARTICIPTION IN THE PROGRAM AND DO HEREBY WISH THEM THE BEST IN ALL OF THEIR EVENTS.
