IN   RECOGNITION

 

WHEREAS,                     Ms. Janice Zeringue Hymel, born in Waggaman, Louisiana, has been a resident of Hahnville, Louisiana since she was six years old.  She has one daughter, Lenore "Lenni" Martinez who is married to Larry J. Martinez, Jr. and a Grand-Dog, Harley; and,

WHEREAS,                     Ms. Hymel is a 1961 graduate of Hahnville High School; and,

WHEREAS,                     Ms. Hymel worked as a clerk in the St. Charles Parish Assessor's Office, as a clerk in the A.S.C.S. Office, as a part-time clerk in the County Agent's Office, and in 1973 started as a part-time clerk in the Registrar of Voters Office, being promoted to Chief Deputy Registrar in 1975; and,

WHEREAS,                     the St. Charles Parish Council appointed Ms. Hymel as the Registrar of Voters of St. Charles Parish on August 8, 1988 following the retirement of her Uncle J. Leonard Zeringue; and,

WHEREAS,                     Ms. Hymel, a two-time cancer survivor now in good health, has decided to retire from the post on April 15, 2007, after 19 years as Registrar of Voters of St. Charles Parish and a total of 34 years of working in the Office; and,

WHEREAS,                     Ms. Hymel has spent 75% of her adult life in the Registrar of Voters Office and while there became a wife, a mother, a single parent, and a mother-in-law, and during this time her black hair has turned to silver; and,

WHEREAS,                     besides throwing her alarm clock away, Ms. Hymel wants to spend more time with her family, making jewelry, painting, and other crafts that are her passions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer our sincere thanks and appreciation for your many years of public service and our congratulations and best wishes for a long, healthy, and happy retirement to
