P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS,      Katherine Elizabeth Kain was born on September 17, 1984 to Lloyd and Connie Kain of Destrehan where she lived all her life with her parents and her sister Emily; and,
WHEREAS,      Katherine began her schooling at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School in Norco and finished her schooling at Destrehan High School.  She was enrolled at the University of New Orleans (UNO), but began her college life at Louisiana State University (LSU) where she was a sister of Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity; and,
WHEREAS,      at the tender age of 9 months, Katherine was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States, 70,000 worldwide; and,
WHEREAS,      on October 19, 2006, at the early age of 22, Katherine lost her life long battle; and,
WHEREAS,      on Saturday, September 22, 2007, at 2:30 pm, at the East Bank Bridge Park in Destrehan, the K.A.I.N. Foundation (Katherine's Angels In Need) will host a run/walk event at $10.00 per person, to celebrate Katherine's 23rd birthday and to raise money to benefit Children's Hospital of New Orleans where Katherine spent a great deal of time battling Cystic Fibrosis; and,
WHEREAS,      if the Foundation raises $10,000.00, Children's Hospital has agreed to create a memorial in honor of Katherine in the new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit; and,
WHEREAS,      Katherine was truly an angel in everyone's eyes; she had the greatest smile, the kindest heart, and was willing to help anyone, and now it is time for us to do something special for her; and,
WHEREAS,      Katherine was quoted as saying, "I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and everything has a way of working itself out"; and,
WHEREAS,      St. Charles Parish recognizes the efforts to raise funds and promote awareness to fight Cystic Fibrosis, thereby improving the quality of human life for those living with this disease; and,
WHEREAS,      the Parish President and the Members of the Parish Council wish to join in and lend their support for this most worthy cause.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2007, AS
KATHERINE ELIZABETH KAIN DAY
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, THAT THE CITIZENS OF ST. CHARLES PARISH ARE HEREBY URGED TO PARTICIPATE AND HELP RAISE MONEY FOR RESEARCH TO FIND A CURE FOR CYSTIC FIBROSIS.
