In Memoriam: Stanley Francis Keller, III

IN MEMORIAM
WHEREAS, on July 23, 2012, Almighty God, in His Infinite Wisdom, saw fit to call from amongst us one of his most worthy servants, Stanley Francis Keller, III; and,
WHEREAS, Stanley Keller, the son of the late Erna Mae and Stanley Keller, Jr., was a native of Hahnville, Louisiana, and lifelong resident of St. Charles Parish. He was dedicated to his family; his loving wife Cecile L. Keller, his children Carol Matis, Stanley Keller, IV, Joy Anders, Dwayne, and Chad Keller, and 14 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and 7 step-grandchildren; and,
WHEREAS, Stanley Keller was a dedicated Public Servant. He joined the St. Charles Parish Red Cross as a volunteer in 1987, while employed by the St. Charles Parish School Board. It was during this time that he helped create the Disaster Action Team; a group of volunteers with The American Red Cross who responds to any disaster in St. Charles Parish around the clock. Whether a major event or a single family house fire, Stanley Keller and his team could be counted on to provide immediate emergency needs to Parish residents any time of day; and,
WHEREAS, through the years, Stanley Keller's actions provided the motivation for his wife and family members to become involved in volunteering and serving others; continuing his legacy. As a key member of a team, he worked hands-on with the St. Charles Parish Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness; and,
WHEREAS, Stanley Keller was the Disaster Action Team's Chairman for many years. Later, he became the Lead Disaster Assessment Agent with the Red Cross for all of Southeast Louisiana and he would often be called upon to help nationally. In 2009, he was hired by The American Red Cross as the Disaster Coordinator for the River Region. Only the last three years of his service was he a paid staff member of The American Red Cross, but even as a volunteer, he was always a reliable resource for the St. Charles Parish EOC; and,
WHEREAS, Stanley Keller was involved with just about any and all major disaster or community events in St. Charles Parish for roughly 24 years, including notable events like the Norco Shell Oil Company's Refinery Cat Cracker Explosion in 1988, Hurricane Andrew in 1992, the May 8th Flood in 1995, Hurricane Katrina in 2005, as well as numerous tropical storms, flooding events, house fires, and industry related emergencies. He played a key role in many flooding or wind-damage related events by working hands-on with the Parish's Disaster Assessments; coordinated strike teams to respond and cover the entire Parish for any event that could have caused damage to residents' homes; worked hands-on with St. Charles Parish Emergency Preparedness to provide service for the Sheriff's Office and Fire Departments in whatever way they needed; he provided immediate emergency needs to clients, including assistance such as sheltering, mass care, and clothing; and was also involved with countless non-emergency community events within St. Charles Parish; and,
WHEREAS, Stanley Keller served intermittently as a member of the Hahnville Volunteer Fire Department for 17 years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Dulac; and,
WHEREAS, Stanley Keller was always extremely reliable, a dear friend, could always be counted upon when in need, regardless of the situation, always managed to find a way to serve, and has helped thousands of our residents directly through his time; and,
WHEREAS, the loss of Stanley Keller and his dedication to the betterment of St. Charles Parish will surely be missed by all; and,
WHEREAS, on behalf of all citizens of St. Charles Parish, the Parish Council, and the Parish President wish to posthumously honor MR. STANLEY FRANCIS KELLER, III, as an outstanding and dedicated citizen of St. Charles Parish.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, duly assembled on this 20th day of August, 2012 do hereby express our sincere sympathy to the family of

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Memoriam shall be inscribed on a page in the Official Minute Book of the St. Charles Parish Council and that when this meeting is adjourned, it shall be done in his memory.
