Proclamation: “Love Our Waterways Month”

P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, the third Saturday of September is International Coastal Cleanup Day, an annual event spearheaded by the Ocean Conservancy in which people worldwide volunteer to help remove litter and debris from coastlines and waterways worldwide; and,
WHEREAS, Keep Louisiana Beautiful has announced September 2026 as Louisiana’s first annual “Love Our Waterways" month to encourage volunteer participation to help clean up the state’s rivers, lakes, bayous, and shorelines; and,
WHEREAS, wetlands and waterways are critical habitats and landscapes that provide flood protection, recreation, and economic opportunities for St. Charles Parish residents; and,
WHEREAS, litter and debris negatively impact our wetlands and waterways; and,
WHEREAS, at their regular meeting of July 14th the St. Charles Parish Coastal Zone Advisory Committee passed Resolution 2026-1-RES in support of Love Our Waterways month; and,
WHEREAS, the St. Charles Parish Council wishes to support Love Our Waterways month and encourage residents to cleanup our waterways on September 26th at the Bonnett Carre Spillway in cooperation with Keep Louisiana Beautiful and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, WE THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM SEPTEMBER 2026 AS
“LOVE OUR WATERWAYS MONTH”
IN ST. CHARLES PARISH AND ENCOURAGE ALL RESIDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN LOCAL CLEANUP EFFORTS AND TO PROTECT OUR WETLANDS, WATERWAYS, AND SHORELINES.
