Title
A resolution to request that the Louisiana State Legislature take no further action on HB 1272 creating the Southeast Regional Airport Authority pending input from the Elected Officials of St. Charles Parish.
Body
WHEREAS, HB 1272 which is currently pending before the Louisiana State Legislature creates the Southeast Regional Airport Authority; and,
WHEREAS, said Authority is created as a political subdivision of the State whose boundaries are Jefferson Parish, Orleans Parish, and St. Charles Parish; and,
WHEREAS, said Authority is proposed to be governed by a nine member board, including two members from Orleans Parish, one member from Jefferson Parish, one member from the City of Kenner, one member from St. Charles Parish, four members from the State at-large all of whom shall be appointed by the Governor and serve at his/her pleasure; and,
WHEREAS, the activities of said Authority will have a substantial and direct impact on the residents of St. Charles Parish; and,
WHEREAS, said legislation was proposed without input or consultation from the residents or Elected Officials of St. Charles Parish; and,
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the St. Charles Parish Council and the Parish President that no further action be taken on said legislation until the Elected Officials of St. Charles Parish are allowed input into the process.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby request that the Louisiana State Legislature take no further action on HB 1272 to allow the Elected Officials of St. Charles Parish to be heard.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be forwarded to Governor Bobby Jindal, Senate President Joel T. Chaisson, II, Speaker of the House Jim Tucker, Representative Gary L. Smith, Jr., and Representative Ernest D. Wooton.
