RESOLUTION NO.        5552
Title
A resolution requesting the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development to stripe US 61 for a right turning lane, going south, at the following locations:  US 61 and Goodhope Street, Motiva's Airline Gate, Motiva's Contractors Gate A30 and Gate 44, and to extend the turning lane at Ormond Boulevard to include the strip mall and LA 626.
Body
WHEREAS,      striping US 61 for a right turning lane and extending the existing turning lanes would allow vehicles that must slow down to turn right an opportunity to exit the highway safely; and,
WHEREAS,      providing right turn lanes with striping would allow the flow of traffic to move at a safe pace and help in avoiding rear end collisions; and,
WHEREAS,      with the open span of roadway, the many large trucks, and with the enormous amount of vehicular traffic traveling at high rates of speed on US 61, vehicles turning right can cause a very dangerous and difficult situation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL do hereby request the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development to stripe US 61 for a right turning lane, going south, at the following locations:  US 61 and Goodhope Street, Motiva's Airline Gate, Motiva's Contractors Gate A30 and Gate 44, and to extend the turning lane at Ormond Boulevard to include the strip mall and LA 626.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Governor Bobby Jindal, Department of Transportation & Development Secretary William Ankner, Senator Joel T. Chaisson, II, Representative Gary L. Smith, Jr., Representative Ernest D. Wooton, and District Administrator Michael Stack, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.
