RESOLUTION NO.                                                                

Title

A resolution requesting the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to provide funding and to repair the I-10 turnaround crossings along I-10 over the Bonnet Carre' Spillway in St. Charles Parish.

Body

WHEREAS,                     the I-10 turnaround crossings are extremely important to emergency responders to enable them to provide timely emergency assistance to motorist traveling through St. Charles Parish along the Bonnet Carre' Spillway; and,

WHEREAS,                     there is a brief time period know by rescue professionals as “The Golden Hour” in which rescues can be affected and lives saved and this time is often compromised by the malfunctioning of the I-10 turnaround crossings; and,

WHEREAS,                     often times emergency assistance provided to the traveling public by emergency responders is delayed due to the inoperative turnaround crossings; and,

WHEREAS,                     the delayed assistance rendered by emergency responders has caused increased damage to personal and state owned property and has magnified to results of serious personal injury of the traveling public.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby urge and request the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development provide the necessary funding and resources and authorize the repair of all I-10 turnaround crossings along the Bonnet Carre' Spillway in St. Charles Parish; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to Governor Mike Foster, Senator Joel T. Chaisson, II, Representatives Gary L. Smith, Jr. and Glenn B. Ansardi, and DOTD Secretary Kam Movassaghi.
