IN   RECOGNITION

WHEREAS,                     George and Lois Forrest are residents of Bayou Gauche, Louisiana in St. Charles Parish; and,

WHEREAS,                     George started the Bayou Gauche Volunteer Fire Department in 1974.  He and Lois owned five acres of land where the fire department was built and later, a community playground.  Over time, the fire department purchased the property it was built on and St. Charles Parish purchased the playground; and,

WHEREAS,                     George was President of the Bayou Gauche Volunteer Fire Department for over 35 years; he served as Vice-President for almost six years, and he served as Interim President for 2 years.  Lois was the Treasurer for the fire department for over 35 years.  The department started with $250 and has grown to over $1.3 million as of 2018.  One of the major accomplishments was improving the class for the district to Class 4, which contributes to decreasing homeowner’s insurance rates for many commercial and residential properties in the district; and,

WHEREAS,                     in 1991, George was appointed to serve on the first St. Charles Parish Communications District Board of Commissioners representing fire service, where he with the other commissioners, were instrumental in implementing the 911 communications system that provides the residents of St. Charles Parish a vital link to emergency response personnel from medical, fire, and police services; and,

WHEREAS,                     George was a member of the St. Charles Parish Firemen’s Association, the Louisiana State Firemen’s Association, was Custodian of Elections in District 4 at the Bayou Gauche Volunteer Fire Department location, and he assisted with delivering MRE’s and water to residents who stayed behind during Hurricane Katrina; and,

WHEREAS,                     Lois was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Bayou Gauche Volunteer Fire Department, she was the official cleaner of the station for all functions held at the hall, she cooked most meals for the Association meetings held at the Bayou Gauche Fire Station, and she was president of the Ladies Club at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for over 30 years.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this tribute and recognition to

GEORGE & LOIS FORREST

FOR THEIR DEDICATION AND SERVICE TO THE BAYOU GAUCHE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT, THE BAYOU GAUCHE COMMUNITY, AND ST. CHARLES PARISH
