RESOLUTION NO. 5516
Title
A resolution requesting the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to install a fully functional automated traffic signal at the intersection of Highway 90 and LA 632 (WPA Road).
Body
WHEREAS, many fatal accidents occur every year on Highway 90; and,
WHEREAS, many accidents and near misses have occurred on a regular basis at this intersection; and,
WHEREAS, due to the steady increase in vehicular traffic in this area; and,
WHEREAS, traffic traveling on Highway 90 travels well above the posted speed limit reducing the amount of time vehicles have to clear this intersection; and,
WHEREAS, this intersection is used by many residents traveling to and from the recreational facilities on LA 632; and,
WHEREAS, Allemands Elementary School is located on LA 632 which generates significant traffic by teachers, parents, and by school buses carrying young children; and,
WHEREAS, for the safety of the St. Charles Parish Deputies putting their lives at risk working this intersection to control traffic entering and leaving Allemands Elementary; and,
WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation and Development is responsible for taking the necessary steps needed to reduce and eliminate the hazardous driving conditions at the intersection of Highway 90 and LA 632.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby request that the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development install a fully functional automated traffic signal at the intersection of Highway 90 and LA 632 (WPA Road).
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to Governor Bobby Jindal, Department of Transportation & Development Secretary Mr. William Ankner, Department of Transportation & Development Traffic Operations Engineer Mr. Steve Strength, Senator Joel T. Chaisson, II, Representative Gary L. Smith, Jr., and Representative Ernest D. Wooton.
