P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, all people have the right to live in a safe, accepting, and peaceful environment; and,
WHEREAS, every 15 seconds a woman is severely beaten in the United States; and,
WHEREAS, combating the problem of violence against women involves bringing awareness towards reducing violence in our society, our communities, our schools, and most importantly, in our homes; and,
WHEREAS, we believe that all people thrive more fully in an atmosphere free of fear and violence; however, there exists in our society a system of power, control, and domination which suppresses these rights and perpetrates violence particularly against women and children; and,
WHEREAS, domestic violence consists of psychological, physical, and/or sexual force and impacts women of all ages, income levels, and ethnic backgrounds; and,
WHEREAS, The Metro provides free and confidential services to women, children, teen, and male survivors in suburbs, urban, and rural areas to enable families to regain their physical and emotional strength with the goal to provide assistance to anyone seeking help and this is accomplished through State, Federal, and Local grant monies as well as donations; and,
WHEREAS, St. Charles Parish commends the Metropolitan Center for Women and Children for providing services to the survivors of trauma; for when survivors become stronger, the community is strengthened.
