IN   RECOGNITION

WHEREAS,                     Command Sergeant Major Clifford J. Ockman, Jr., a member of a family with five generations of military servicemen, enlisted in the United States Army as an infantryman in 1989; and,

WHEREAS,                     in 1997, Command Sergeant Major Ockman transferred to the Louisiana Army National Guard.  He is a veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Operation Uphold Democracy, and Operation Iraqi Freedom III; and,

WHEREAS,                     after receiving both civilian and military education with degrees from Excelsior College in New York, Command Sergeant Major Ockman also graduated from the United States Army Sergeants Major Course and the Nominative Leader Course; and,

WHEREAS,                     his highest awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, and twenty-seven other federal and state awards, some with multiple declarations.  He has earned the Ranger Tab, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Combat Infantryman’s Badge (2nd award) and Expert Infantryman’s Badge, and was also named the LAARNG 2005 First Sergeant of the Year, 2016 CSM of the Year, and is the recipient of the Order of Saint Maurice and the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara; and,

WHEREAS,                     Command Sergeant Major Ockman assumed responsibility as the Senior Enlisted Leader of the Louisiana National Guard on November 1, 2020; and,

WHEREAS,                     the son of Donna Petit Smith and Clifford “Butch” Ockman, Command Sergeant Major Ockman resides in St. Charles Parish with his wife, Valerie (a veteran of the United States Navy).  They have one son, Cameron, who is a Staff Sergeant in the Louisiana Army National Guard.  All five family members are graduates of Hahnville High School.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby honor and express gratitude to

Clifford J. Ockman, Jr.

For his service to the nation, state and community of St. Charles Parish, and in recognition of the importance of his responsibility to protect our country and lead more than 11,500 soldiers and airmen and advise The Adjutant General of Louisiana in the highest enlisted position of the Louisiana National Guard, the Senior Enlisted Leader.
