Proclamation: "National Homeownership Month"

P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, Family Resources of New Orleans is a non-profit community housing development organization providing an array of housing services in the region with a mission to enable and empower families to become self-sufficient by providing resources that promote economic well being, affordable housing, and rebuilding sustainable communities; and,
WHEREAS, Family Resources of New Orleans, in its 11th year of program operations, is recruiting families to participate in a program to increase homeownership through the Rural Development Mutual Self-Help Housing Program; and,
WHEREAS, families living in St. Charles, Jefferson, St. John the Baptist, St. Bernard, and Plaquemines Parishes work together in groups to help build their own homes. By investing in "sweat equity", where families are required to contribute labor hours, they achieve substantial savings in the cost of new construction making homeownership affordable; and,
WHEREAS, owning a home is part of the American dream and Family Resources of New Orleans in St. Charles Parish, is celebrating Homeownership Month as an opportunity to encourage residents to explore the benefits of owning a home; and,
WHEREAS, owning a home provides a source of security and stability for many of our residents and Family Resources of New Orleans in partnership with the USDA, MidSouth Foundation, United Way of St. Charles, Housing Assistance Council, Killona Civic Association in St. Charles Parish, Little Dixie, NeighborWorks, First National Bank USA, Whitney Bank CDC, and Louisiana Housing Finance Agency is committed to fostering homeownership by helping more families realize the opportunity to build wealth.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM JUNE 2008 AS
"NATIONAL HOMEOWNERSHIP MONTH"
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, THAT THE CELEBRATORY EVENT WILL COMMENCE ON JUNE 26, 2008 AT 2223 PAUL MAILLARD ROAD, IN BOUTTE WHERE THREE PARTICIPATING FAMILIES IN ST. CHARLES PARISH WILL CUT THE RIBBON TO THEIR NEW HOMES.
