Title
A resolution to request that the United States Army Corps of Engineers and the United States Congress Fast Track the Donaldsonville, Louisiana to the Gulf of Mexico Flood Control Project.
Body
WHEREAS, on May 6, 1998 the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure of the United States House of Representatives authorized the study of the Donaldsonville, Louisiana to the Gulf of Mexico Flood Control Project; and,
WHEREAS, the project area of protection extends from from Bayou Lafourche in Lafourche Parish, to the Mississippi River levee in Plaquemines Parish and includes the West Bank of St. Charles Parish; and,
WHEREAS, the Reconnaissance Study for this project was completed in October 2000 and the Feasibility Study began in February 2002 with a scheduled completion date of 2005, which was delayed to 2007 and has now been delayed to September 2008; and,
WHEREAS, in order to provide Hurricane Protection to the citizens of the West Bank of St. Charles Parish it is imperative that this project be removed from the "traditional study route" and be Fast Tracked.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT do hereby request that the United States Congress and the United States Army Corps of Engineers remove the project from the "traditional study route" and FAST TRACK the Final Completion of the Feasibility Study, Project Authorization, and Funding of the Donaldsonville, Louisiana to the Gulf of Mexico Flood Control Project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be forwarded to Senator Mary Landrieu, Senator David Vitter, Representative Charles Melancon, Representative Bobby Jindal, Mr. Donald Powell, and Colonel Alvin B. Lee.
