IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Henry R. Miller, Jr., and his wife, Alice Rome Miller, residents of Destrehan for nearly 55 years, are the parents of Vicki M. Tramonte, wife of Galen Tramonte, Stephanie Miller Becnel, Henry R. Miller, III, husband of Melissa Felder Miller, Dana M. Herbert, wife of Joseph Herbert, and Erin M. Green, wife of Bryan Green. They are the proud grandparents of 17 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Miller grew up at his parent’s home in Destrehan, and as a teenager, on his grandmother’s farm in St. Rose with her and his two aunts as the “Man of the House” while his uncles were serving in the war. He graduated from St. Charles Borromeo High School in 1957 and served in the Louisiana Army National Guard for 10 years beginning in high school and in subsequent years; and,
WHEREAS, while living on Pan Am Refinery, Mr. Miller began his career history by working summers at the refinery until graduation. He went on to further his experience and education by working for numerous chemical and petro chemical companies along the Mississippi River. Ever thirsty for knowledge and advancement, he ultimately worked for 16 different companies including DuPont, Boeing Aircraft, Vulcan Chemical, and G. E. Apparatus Services. He eventually retired from Elliot Company in 2000 as Senior Field Engineer. He was always looking for further opportunities to support his growing family and for much of his life, he maintained 1 or 2 sideline jobs, which led to his career as Justice of the Peace; and,
WHEREAS, on October 22, 1983, Mr. Miller was elected Justice of the Peace of District 3 in St. Charles Parish for the first time. He was re-elected and served for 31 years concurrently and retired January 2015. During that time, he held several state offices of the Louisiana Justice of the Peace and Constables Association including: Board Member for 10 years, Vice-President for 10 years, and President for 3 years; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Miller was honored to serve during the administration of Governors Edwards, Blanco, Foster, and Jindal. He was also fortunate to have served with dependable Constables, Joey Chaisson, Louis Landry, and, for many years, Gil Schmidt. These men became close friends as well as co-workers; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Miller began his Justice of the Peace career serving 1½ districts of the 6 districts. Redistricting later led to 7 districts with parish-wide jurisdiction for all Justice of the Peace. In the year 2000, he began to keep full-time office hours from his residence; and,
WHEREAS, during his entire career in public service, Mr. Miller was always available to assist his constituents and deputies. He excelled at mediation of conflicting parties and his interest and involvement in the political welfare of this parish and its citizens continues to be a driving force in his life. For this, we are all better served.
