IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, the early German colonists arrived in this area then known as The Louisiana Territory, in 1719; and,
WHEREAS, the Parish of St. Charles will celebrate its Tri-Centennial in 2019; and,
WHEREAS, according to Police Jury records of 1866, "the President is hereby authorized and empowered to issue Warrants for the amount allowed to Mr. P. Maillard's and Mayronne's Lands selected and purchased by the Parish to lay out the New Public Road from the River to Magnolia Ridge..."; this new public road replaced the Sugarhouse route and became an extension of the Old Spanish Trail and was eventually named Paul Maillard Road; and,
WHEREAS, a ferry at River and Paul Maillard Roads connected Luling to the east bank of the River, resulting in many new businesses developing along the new corridor and Luling becoming known as a "boom town"; and,
WHEREAS, the Parish adopted the Paul Maillard Road Revitalization Plan in 2014 and is working to revitalize the Paul Maillard Road corridor; and,
WHEREAS, the Paul Maillard Community Development Corporation (PMCDC) was incorporated on December 16, 2015, as recommended in the revitalization plan as an implementation strategy for the Economic Development and Tourism Department and preservation of a vital commercial and historic corridor; and,
WHEREAS, the mission of the PMCDC is to monitor and facilitate the implementation of the revitalization plan and the vision is to serve as the driving force behind the revitalization of Paul Maillard Road and the surrounding community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this recognition and tribute to the
PAUL MAILLARD COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
“PARISH OF PLENTY”
created in 1807 from the county of the
“German Coast”, a parish of
unprecedented economic and social
development, known for its
hospitality, rural living and sporting
opportunities… with the added
distinction of being located
on both sides of the
Mighty Mississippi River.
