  IN   RECOGNITION
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Rodney R. Lafon is a resident of Luling, Louisiana in St. Charles Parish and presently is Superintendent of the St. Charles Parish School System; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Lafon began his teaching career in the St. Charles Parish School System in 1975, serving as classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, restructuring coordinator, assistant superintendent for support services and superintendent.  He has held the position of Superintendent of Schools in St. Charles Parish since 1995; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Lafon has been named the 2001 Louisiana State Superintendent of the Year by the Louisiana Association of School Executives, and will represent Louisiana at the American Association of School Administrators National Conference on Education in San Diego on February 15th, where he will advance to the national competition; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Lafon has raised student achievement in his district and found ways to bring the community into his schools to show them first hand results; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Lafon has exemplified the bases for a nominee of the Superintendent of the Year Award with his leadership for learning, communication skills, professional development, and community involvement; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Lafon has played a significant role in the development of the State's Education Reform. He served on the advisory panels, including the Louisiana LEARN Commission, where he was appointed by Governor Mike Foster, and the Parish Superintendent's Advisory Council, which advises BESE on education policies; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Lafon has received the Distinguished Educational Achievement Award for Louisiana at the Southern Association of College and Schools annual meeting and has been elected to serve as President for 2001-2002 at the recent National Federation of Urban and Suburban School District's Conference.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this tribute and recognition to
DR. RODNEY R. LAFON
