TRIBUTE

 

Division A, Councilwoman-At-Large

 

CAROLYN K. SCHEXNAYDRE is a native of Reserve and longtime resident of Destrehan.  She is married to Gilbert Schexnaydre, Jr. and they are the proud parents of three children, Gene, Jonathan, and Obidee, and have one grandson, Payton.

 

Carolyn is completing her second term in office.  She was first elected to the Parish Council in 2007, taking office January 14, 2008, as Councilwoman-At-Large, Division A and was re-elected to a second term in 2011.

 

Carolyn is a graduate of Destrehan High School.  She is very active in volunteering for her community and has held positions in different organizations throughout the Parish.  For the past two years, she was Chairman of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Event held annually at the Westbank Bridge Park in Luling.  She is a member of the Louisiana Association of Family and Community Education for over 20 years.  She and her husband were honored with receiving the prestigious award for the “Great American Family” from the Louisiana Volunteers for Family and Community in 2004.  She held the position of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 366 President for four years and was elected as Second District President for two terms.  She is an active member of the Norco Civic Association and an annual guest speaker at the Louisiana Girl’s State Program.

 

Carolyn served as Chairman of the Legislative Committee for four one-year terms and served as a member of the Operations, Maintenance, and Construction Management Committee, Contract/Finance and Administrative Committee, Special Projects/Public Safety, Health, and Environmental Committee, and Hurricane Protection Projects Committee.  She served four consecutive two-year terms on the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program Advisory Council, and two consecutive four-year terms on the Community Action Advisory Board as a Public Official Appointment.

 

Carolyn served as a member of the Louisiana Police Jury Association and the National Association of County Officials.
