IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Reverend Rodney L. Johnson, Sr., a resident of Hahnville, Louisiana, lives with his wife of 30 years, Michelle Brimmer Johnson and has 3 children and 2 grandchildren; and,
WHEREAS, Reverend Johnson is a native of Killona, born November 13, 1957 to Hazel Dallon and the late Eddie Johnson, Sr. He attended Killona Elementary in his childhood years; and,
WHEREAS, Reverend Johnson was exposed to the love of God at an early age. He received the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of 10 at Children of Israel Baptist Church in Killona, by Dr. John B. Davis, Jr., and was called to preach in 1968 at the age of 11; and,
WHEREAS, Reverend Johnson furthered his education at Hahnville High School and in 1981, was ordained as a Gospel preacher by the "St. Charles Missionary Baptist Association" under the leadership of his Pastor and mentor, the late Dr. John B. Davis, Jr.; in 1982, he was called to serve as presider at the Historic Bethlehem Baptist Church during the illness of the late Reverend Sidney H. Davis. During this time, he attended the Union Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans where he received a Bachelor of Theology Degree in 1983; in 1984, he became Pastor of the Historic Bethlehem Baptist Church subsequent to Pastor Davis's indefinite illness; in 1998, he received a Doctoral Degree in Pastoral Theology from Andersonville Baptist Theological Seminary in Camilla, Georgia; and he is the author of two books: "The Scars of Christ" and "The Last Days"; and,
WHEREAS, Reverend Johnson is widely recognized as an orator of the gospel. His teaching and preaching has made an impact in Hahnville and the surrounding areas. He has been instrumental in leading many to Christ and has received numerous awards from parish officials for his outstanding contributions to the betterment of society. In 2007, he was called to serve as Pastor at Bell Baptist Church in Luling following the death of his good friend the late Pastor Eugene Turner; and,
WHEREAS, Reverend Johnson has been pastoring for 30 years at Historic Bethlehem Baptist Church in Hahnville; to date; he has been preaching for 46 years. His greatest desire is that of ministering to the youth, compelling the lost, and impacting the saints through the word of God so that they will ultimately be conformed to the image of Christ.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this tribute and recognition to
REVEREND RODNEY L. JOHNSON, SR.
