IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Mr. Craig Howat and his wife Annie are residents of Hahnville, Louisiana in St. Charles Parish and are the proud parents of four children: Jonathan, Jeremy, Anne-Marie, and Jacob; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Howat taught for two years at Carver Elementary in Hahnville, and has been teaching at Luling Elementary for the past four years in the Technology Department; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Howat spearheaded a community service project by applying for a grant to help provide hundreds of children in the Killona community a safe place to play; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Howat, along with volunteers from the Luling Family Center, United Way of St. Charles, Dow Chemical Company, and Killona Volunteer Fire Department, pursued and received $40,000 in funding to build a dream playground; and,
WHEREAS, a design day was held on August 22, 2007, at Luling Elementary School where twenty students who live in Killona, worked for an hour to come up with the playground's design; and,
WHEREAS, on October 24, 2007, a kick-off for the new project was held where more than 150 volunteers from Americares, St. Charles Parish Parks and Recreation, Luling Elementary School, organizers from the company KaBOOM!, and residents of the Killona Community completed a dream play area for the kids; and,
WHEREAS, the playground is the fourth built by KaBOOM!, a national non-profit organization that uses its innovative community-build model to bring together business and community interests for the construction of more than 1,200 new playgrounds, skate parks, sports fields, and ice rinks across North America, and Americares, a non-profit international disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization, which provides immediate response to emergency medical needs and supports long-term humanitarian assistance programs around the world; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Howat said, "This grant is basically a way for us at Luling Elementary to reach out to the Killona Community."
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this tribute and recognition to
CRAIG HOWAT
