Title
A resolution requesting the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development perform a traffic study to determine the feasibility of the installation of a signal light at the intersection of LA Highway 50 (Almedia Road) and LA Highway 48 (River Road), in St. Charles Parish.
Body
WHEREAS, LA Highway 50 and LA Highway 48 are very heavily traveled roadways; and,
WHEREAS, LA Highway 50 is an evacuation route for Residents of St. Charles Parish and Parishes east of St. Charles; and,
WHEREAS, new development in the St. Rose area has increased traffic; and,
WHEREAS, during peak traffic periods and with the hazardous viewing of oncoming west bound traffic this intersection has become a very dangerous intersection for traffic turning east or west onto River Road (LA 48); and,
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development has a responsibility to protect the citizens from hazardous driving conditions by removing or reducing the potential for accidents.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby request that the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development perform a traffic study to determine the feasibility of the installation of a signal light at the intersection of LA Highway 50 (Almedia Road) and LA Highway 48 (River Road), in St. Charles Parish.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Governor Bobby Jindal, Department of Transportation and Development Secretary Mr. William Ankner, Department of Transportation and Development Assistant District Administrator of Operations Mr. R. H. "Buzzy" Wegner, Department of Transportation and Development Legislative Liaison Mr. Roy Quezaire, Department of Transportation and Development Administrator Mr. Michael Stack, Senator Joel T. Chaisson, II, Representative Gary L. Smith, Jr., and Representative Ernest D. Wooton requesting their assistance on this matter.
