RESOLUTION NO.     5637                        

A resolution asking the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to lower the Speed Limit on Highway 90 in St. Charles Parish, approximately 300 feet east of Early Street to Highway 306 from 45 MPH to 35 MPH.

WHEREAS,                     it is the responsibility of the Department of Transpiration and Development to provide for the safe and orderly movement of traffic on state Highways; and,

WHEREAS,                     a reduction in highway speed in this area would facilitate a reduction in accidents and near-accidents and the severity of these accidents; and,

WHEREAS,                     many residents of St. Charles Parish are concerned about the dangerous driving conditions motorist must encounter when driving on Highway 90 in the Paradis area of St. Charles Parish; and,

WHEREAS,                     with this area being identify as a portion of the I-49 corridor and with increased residential and commercial development in this area, there has been a sufficient increase in motor vehicle traffic; and,

WHEREAS,                     for the safety of St. Charles Parish residents and all motorist who travel through this area of our community, St. Charles Parish Governing Authority is requesting the implementation of a lower speed limit in this area.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby ask the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to lower the Speed Limit on Highway 90 in St. Charles Parish, approximately 300 feet east of Early Street to Highway 306 from 45 MPH to 35 MPH.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to Governor Bobby Jindal, Department of Transportation and Development Secretary Mr. William Ankner, Department of Transportation and Development Assistant District Administrator of Operations Mr. R. H. “Buzzy” Wegner, Department of Transportation and Development Legislative Liaison Mr. Roy Quezaire, Senator Joel T. Chaisson, II, Representative Gary L. Smith, Jr., and Representative Ernest D. Wooton.

The foregoing resolution having been submitted to a vote, the vote thereon was as follows:
