Proclamation: "Ed Reed Day"

P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, Edward Earl Reed, Jr., is a 1997 graduate of Destrehan High School, a 2001 graduate of the University of Miami, and a resident of St. Rose, Louisiana in St. Charles Parish; and,
WHEREAS, In April 2002, Ed was the 24th overall pick in the 1st round of the NFL Draft, selected by the Baltimore Ravens; and,
WHEREAS, Ed has earned many football awards at Destrehan High School, the University of Miami, and as a Baltimore Raven is continuing to add to his honors; and,
WHEREAS, Ed has not only affected the students of the St. Charles Parish School System but the entire Parish as a whole; and,
WHEREAS, the Ed Reed Foundation sponsored a night out with the Destrehan Wildcats which gave an opportunity to the Recreational Football Teams and Coaches to attend a Destrehan High School football game free of charge, which is important to Ed to give young children opportunities he did not have as a youngster; and,
WHEREAS, On August 25, 2005, at the Destrehan High School Jamboree, Ed's High School Football Jersey #20 will be officially retired; and,
WHEREAS, the Members of the St. Charles Parish Council and the Parish President would like to recognize Ed for his outstanding contribution to the game of football; and,
WHEREAS, Ed is a role model and inspiration to all who know him, proving that with dedication and hard work you can accomplish your goals no matter where you are from.
NOW, THEREFORE, WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM AUGUST 25, 2005 AND THE YEARS TO COME, AS
"ED REED DAY"

not only has he had an affect on the students of St. Charles Parish School System but he has also affected St. Charles Parish as a whole
it was important to Edward that the young children have an opportunity to attend a highshcool game something he didn't have as a youngster
His focus has always been to give children opportunity he didn't have
his biggest hope is that young people know that if he can succeed they can succeed no matter where they come from and never give up.
