RESOLUTION NO.
Title
A resolution requesting the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to adopt a plan for the four lane continuation of Louisiana Highway 3127.
Body
WHEREAS, there is significant traffic congestion on I-10 and I-12 in the Baton Rouge area; and,
WHEREAS, Baton Rouge needs immediate relief and lessening of the traffic congestion; and,
WHEREAS, immediate relief would be achieved by completing Louisiana Highway 3127, four lanes from Louisiana Highway 90 to Louisiana Highway 70, and the continuation of Louisiana Highway 3127 along the rural areas of Ascension, Iberville, and West Baton Rouge Parishes to I-10 intersection with Louisiana Highway 77; and,
WHEREAS, this route would not only provide a different truck route for traffic and other vehicles traveling east, but would also serve as an "Evacuation Route" during emergency conditions for residents of Plaquemines, Jefferson, and lower Lafourche Parishes; and,
WHEREAS, the continuation of Louisiana Highway 3127, the "West Bank Expressway", will not involve the relocation of mass residents; and,
WHEREAS, the continuation of Louisiana Highway 3127 will provide immediate relief at less cost in comparison to other alternatives; and,
WHEREAS, continuation of Louisiana Highway 3127 will provide greater utilization of the existing Sunshine Bridge, Gramercy Bridge, Luling Bridge, and both New Orleans Bridges; and,
WHEREAS, the continuation of Louisiana Highway 3127 will provide an ease of traffic flow with no traffic lights, no dog legs, no traffic congestion and will provide an additional route and access to the existing bridges and surrounding communities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, enthusiastically and wholeheartedly request that the Governor, the State Legislature, the Regional Planning Commission, and the Department of Transportation and Development adopt a plan and implement said plan for the four lane continuation of Louisiana Highway 3127.
