Title
A resolution asking the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to lower the Speed Limit to 45 MPH on the entire stretch of Airline Drive in St. Charles Parish starting on the west side from the St. Charles Parish and St. John the Baptist Parish line to the east side ending at the St. Charles Parish and Jefferson Parish Line.
Body
WHEREAS, the present speed limit is 55 mph and/or 45 mph on certain sections of this stretch of Airline Drive; and,
WHEREAS, a reduction in highway speed in this area would facilitate a reduction in accidents and near-accidents and the severity of these accidents; and,
WHEREAS, many residents of St. Charles Parish are concerned about the dangerous driving conditions motorist encounter when driving on this stretch of Airline Drive; and,
WHEREAS, for the safety of St. Charles Parish residents and all motorist who travel through this area of our community, St. Charles Parish Governing Authority is requesting the implementation of a lower speed limit in this area.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby ask the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to lower the Speed Limit to 45 MPH on the entire stretch of Airline Drive in St. Charles Parish starting on the west side from the St. Charles Parish and St. John the Baptist Parish line to the east side ending at the St. Charles Parish and Jefferson Parish Line.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to Governor Bobby Jindal, Department of Transportation and Development Secretary Mr. William Ankner, Department of Transportation and Development Assistant District Administrator of Operations Mr. R. H. "Buzzy" Wegner, Department of Transportation and Development Legislative Liaison Mr. Roy Quezaire, Senator Joel T. Chaisson, II, Representative Gary L. Smith, Jr., and Representative Ernest D. Wooton.
