IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Mary Champagne is a 23-year employee of Dow at the St. Charles Operations Facility and is a resident of New Orleans; and,
WHEREAS, Mary is the mother of four children, Natasha, Bobby, Kristin, and Kevin and is the proud grandmother of three: Cristian, Collin, and Laine; and,
WHEREAS, Mary is the recipient of the 2005 Dow Chemical Company's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Recognition Award; and,
WHEREAS, Mary was chosen for this award from employees across the United States who demonstrate a significant commitment to encouraging and promoting racial harmony and unity within their workplace and community, those individuals who have made valuable contributions toward keeping Dr. King's "Dream" alive through specific efforts to improve racial relationships and the quality of life in our community; and,
WHEREAS, during Mary's years with Dow she has led numerous efforts to bring various social and educational issues to the forefront in a manner that crosses ethnic, religious, and racial boundaries. She believes that one of the most important ways of achieving Dr. King's principles of equality and racial unity is through education; and,
WHEREAS, Mary is a long time volunteer in local schools, helping with fundraising events for school improvements, helping to organize a 501C non-profit organization to perform community service activities; and,
WHEREAS, Mary is Vice-President of the Board of Directors for the New City Community Development Corporation, serves as Secretary on the Board of Directors of the Taft Carbide Federal Credit Union, and sits on the Personnel Committee; and,
WHEREAS, Mary has chaired the Dow's Diversity Network Rollout Committee, served as Co-Implementation Leader for Dow's Women's Innovative Network for two years at the St. Charles Operations Facility, is a member of the Dow African American Network Leadership Team, and serves as Co-Chair of the Community Service Committee; and,
WHEREAS, Mary was a special guest at Dow's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration held at its corporate headquarters in Midland, Michigan on January 16, 2005.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this tribute and recognition to
MARY CHAMPAGNE
