Title
A resolution to amend the Parish Council Rules to revise Rule 32 to add three (3) consecutive absences from a committee will be considered resignation.
Body
WHEREAS, St. Charles Parish Council Rule 32 authorizes the appointment of special committees by an affirmative vote of at least five (5) of its members; and,
WHEREAS, at each Organizational Meeting of a new term and at the last regular meeting in December annually thereafter, the Chairman of the Council shall name a Councilman to act as Chairman of the committee and give instructions as to the committee's responsibilities and when it is to report; and,
WHEREAS, the Council may discharge the committee by an affirmative vote of at least five (5) of its members; and,
WHEREAS, several Committee members are continually absent from Committee meetings.
THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL HEREBY RESOLVES TO AMEND RULE 32 AS FOLLOWS:
RULE 32. (AS WRITTEN)
The Council may authorize the appointment of special committees by an affirmative vote of at least five (5) of its members. At each Organizational Meeting of a new term and at the last regular meeting in December annually thereafter, the Chairman of the Council shall name a Councilman to act as Chairman of the committee and give instructions as to the committee's responsibilities and when it is to report. The Council may discharge the committee by an affirmative vote of at least five (5) of its members.
RULE 32. (REVISED)
The Council may authorize the appointment of special committees by an affirmative vote of at least five (5) of its members. At each Organizational Meeting of a new term and at the last regular meeting in December annually thereafter, the Chairman of the Council shall name a Councilman to act as Chairman of the committee and give instructions as to the committee's responsibilities and when it is to report. The Council may discharge the committee by an affirmative vote of at least five (5) of its members. Three (3) consecutive absences from a committee will be considered resignation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby amend the Parish Council Rules to revise Rule 32 to add three (3) consecutive absences from a committee will be considered resignation.
