RESOLUTION NO.   ____________
Title
A resolution in support of the Des Allemands, Bayou Gauche, Paradis Museum Society dedicated to the saving and restoring the former Des Allemands school building for use as a museum to help save and promote the history of the Des Allemands, Bayou Gauche, Paradis area.
Body
WHEREAS,      the communities of Des Allemands, Bayou Gauche and Paradis have played a major role in the history of St. Charles Parish for centuries; and,
WHEREAS,      in 1923, the Des Allemands School was built and accepted by the St. Charles Parish School Board to be used for grades 1-7; and,
WHEREAS,      in 1931, the school was moved to Camardelle Village near Lake Salvador following the construction of a new school in Des Allemands; and,
WHEREAS,      in 1941, the school was then moved to Bayou Gauche for use; and,
WHEREAS,      in 1958, the school building was moved to its present location where it served as the home of the American Legion for many years; and,
WHEREAS,      realizing the historic value of this building to the community, several concerned citizens decided to form a non-profit group to save and restore the building for use as a local museum; and,
WHEREAS,      this museum will focus its exhibits on the culture and historical beginnings of the Des Allemands, Bayou Gauche, and Paradis communities; and,
WHEREAS,      this non-profit board is actively pursuing 501(c)(3) non-profit status; and,
WHEREAS,      achieving this status will assist us in the society's endeavor to obtain corporate, private, and government grants to help cover the costs associated with the restoration of the building; and,
WHEREAS,      the restoration of this building is in the best interest of these communities and will play a vital role in saving and promoting the culture and history of Des Allemands, Bayou Gauche, and Paradis; and,
WHEREAS,      we the members of the Parish Council commend the Des Allemands, Bayou Gauche, Paradis Museum Society for taking the initiative to save this historical building and hope that others in the community will provide both moral and financial support to this good cause.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby offer our support to the Des Allemands, Bayou Gauche, Paradis Museum Society dedicated to the saving and restoring the former Des Allemands school building for use as a museum to help save and promote the history of the Des Allemands, Bayou Gauche, Paradis area.
