Title
A resolution to nominate a representative to New Orleans Mayor Mitchell J. Landrieu to serve as a member of the New Orleans Aviation Board representing St. Charles Parish.
Body
WHEREAS, by virtue of an executive agreement signed by Mayor Ernest N. Morial dated August 30, 1985, and a subsequent formal agreement signed by the Mayor on October 17, 1985, St. Charles Parish is to be represented on the New Orleans Aviation Board; and,
WHEREAS, there exists a vacancy due to the unexpired term of the late Mr. Henry A. Smith, Jr., the current appointment member of the Board serving as the St. Charles Parish Representative; and,
WHEREAS, pursuant to the Home Rule Charter of the City of New Orleans, the Mayor of New Orleans is charged with appointing members of the New Orleans Aviation Board, subject to ratification by the City Council of New Orleans; and,
WHEREAS, in accordance with formal written correspondence received from New Orleans Mayor Mitchell J. Landrieu, the Mayor is requesting that the St. Charles Parish Council nominate four individuals to serve on the New Orleans Aviation Board; and,
WHEREAS, the St. Charles Parish Council is desirous of submitting Ms. Tonnette Rice, who is a life-long resident of Destrehan, LA with over fourteen years of experience planning, developing, and implementing successful tourism campaigns and economic development programs for small and emerging businesses, as a nominee to represent St. Charles Parish on the New Orleans Aviation Board; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Rice is the President of the New Orleans Multicultural Tourism Network since 1997; is a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation; is on the New Orleans Super Bowl Host Committee; was City Business Woman of the Year in 2004; and received the Louisiana State University Women's Center Trailblazer Award in 2011.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby nominate Ms. Tonnette Rice as a representative of St. Charles Parish to serve as a member of the New Orleans Aviation Board, for a five (5) year term; service to begin immediately upon receipt of the required confirmation questionnaire and end July 1, 2017.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Honorable Mitch Landrieu, Mayor of New Orleans, is hereby requested to appoint Ms. Tonnette Rice as the St. Charles Parish representative on the New Orleans Aviation Board and the Honorable Members of the New Orleans City Council are hereby requested to confirm said appointment.
