IN   RECOGNITION

WHEREAS,                     Irving Pierre, Sr., was born on January 14, 1924; he is the third eldest of nine children born to Edgar Pierre, Sr. and Ethel Christophe Pierre; and,

WHEREAS,                     Irving married Evelyn Griffin on July 10, 1946.  They began their family of six children, Sherron (Triche), Nancy (LeBeauf), Ann (Pierre), Irving, Jr., Ilean (Medley), and Bridget (Taylor); and,

WHEREAS,                     Irving was drafted in 1940, serving as a member of the United States Army in the Army’s European Operation.  He was stationed in France, Spain, and England, and occasionally traveled to Germany.  After being discharged in 1945, he began working as a laborer for Celotex, where he worked for 42 years until he retired; and,

WHEREAS,                     Irving and his wife rented Webre’s Grocery Store and began their grocery business. Ten years later, they bought the land where Pierre’s Grocery was erected and is now Pierre’s Beauty and Barber Shop on River Road in Ama, Louisiana. Irving and his wife Evelyn were in business for over 50 years; and,

WHEREAS,                     Irving was baptized in 1950 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Ama, LA.  Irving became a Deacon in 1955. In 1957, he was elevated to the position of Head Deacon, where he served faithfully in that capacity for 63 years. He was also President of the Mt. Pilgrim’s Society for over 13 years; and,

WHEREAS,                     Irving is a member of the American Legion, having served as Commander and Agitant. He is also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he held the office of Treasurer; and,

WHEREAS,                     Irving continues to live and inspire, encourage and empower others in his daily activities by sharing his wisdom, giving his material possessions, walking in his integrity, and consistently displaying his devotion to glorifying God; and,

WHEREAS,                     Irving has shown himself to be a true pillar in the community, who has established a legacy of faith and honor with his commitment to God, family, community, country, and world; and,

WHEREAS,                     Irving will be celebrating his 100th birthday on January 14, 2024.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, WE THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT,

do hereby offer this tribute and recognition to

 

IRVING PIERRE, SR.

ON HIS

100TH BIRTHDAY
