Title
An ordinance to approve and authorize the execution of an Intergovernmental Agreement between the Parish of St. Charles and the St. Charles Parish Law Enforcement District for the funding of St. Charles Parish Correctional Center.
Body
WHEREAS, the Constitution and laws of the State of Louisiana provide for intergovernmental agreements among political subdivisions; and,
WHEREAS, Sheriff Greg Champagne has proposed a Cooperative Endeavor between the Sheriff's Department and the Parish to construct a new 590 bed correctional facility, as per his plan set forth at the September 8, 1998, Parish Council meeting; and,
WHEREAS, the Sheriff has requested that the Parish agree to provide up to $4,000,000.00 in funding for the construction of said facility; and,
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Parish Council to support the endeavor by allocating $4,000,000.00 for the construction of the facility and $20.00 per day for the housing of local pretrial prisoners and prisoners sentenced to Parish time in the facility.
THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION I. That the Intergovernmental Agreement between the Parish of St. Charles and the St. Charles Parish Law Enforcement District is hereby approved.
SECTION II. That the Parish President is hereby authorized to execute said Agreement on behalf of St. Charles Parish.
