Proclamation: Child Abuse Prevention Month

P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, child abuse is one of the most pressing family health and social problems in society today. The overall incident of child abuse has decreased slightly but the severity of this assault upon our abused children has increased during the past year; and,
WHEREAS, in the Tri-Parish area alone, there were over 500 investigations of child abuse and neglect; and,
WHEREAS, The St. Charles Council for Prevention of Child Abuse is a parish-wide, non-profit, tax exempt organization. With a volunteer base the Organization will provide programs to address the prevention of child abuse and neglect. A Parenting Center was open in October of 2001 to serve the needs of our abused and neglected children; and,
WHEREAS, the St. Charles Council for Prevention of Child Abuse is taking a leadership role in the River Parishes Community to educate the public about child abuse and its prevention along with Community Partners, The St. Charles Sheriff's Office, The St. Charles District Attorney's Office, Office of Community Services, The St. Charles Public School System, and others. Through the efforts of private, corporate, and government citizens their goal is to establish a sound basis for the prevention of child abuse in our Community; and,
WHEREAS, the St. Charles Council for Prevention of Child Abuse has joined others across the country in recognizing April 2002 as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM APRIL 2002 AS
CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH
