Title
A resolution opposing pending House Bill No. 2008, creating a Louisiana Airport Development Authority, and giving said authority expropriation powers.
Body
WHEREAS, proposed House Bill No. 2008, presently pending in the Louisiana Legislature, would create a Louisiana Airport Development Authority, but House Bill No. 2008 does not define the purposes for creating a Louisiana Airport Development Authority; and,
WHEREAS, proposed House Bill No. 2008 would not mandate representation on its Board by the local parishes or municipality in which an airport is located, and in fact would limit such potential representation; and,
WHEREAS, proposed House Bill No. 2008 would give the Louisiana Airport Development Authority expropriation powers without requiring any input or approval from local parishes or municipalities in which an airport is situated; and,
WHEREAS, creating such an Authority without defining its purposes, without providing for local representation, and giving that Authority expropriation powers without input or approval from local municipalities or parishes would not be in the best interest of St. Charles Parish, who would be the most directly affected Parish in the State of Louisiana; and,
WHEREAS, this is a direct threat to the freedom and independence of the people of St. Charles Parish by imposing the will of the politicians in the City by brute majority including expropriation powers.
THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL HEREBY RESOLVES:
SECTION I. That St. Charles Parish hereby oppose the creation of a Louisiana Airport Development Authority without defining the purposes of the Authority, without providing for representation on the Authority by representatives of parishes and municipalities in which airports are located, and with giving the Authority expropriation powers without requiring input or approval from local parishes or municipalities in which an airport is located.
SECTION II. That this resolution be forwarded to all Elected Officials representing St. Charles Parish and President of the Police Jury Association urging them to oppose pending House Bill No. 2008 in its present form.
