Title
A resolution supporting House Bill 588, which provides a limitation of liability for loss related to the presentation of Bonfires on the Mississippi River Levee.
Body
WHEREAS, bonfires on the Mississippi River Levee have been a Christmas Eve tradition for over 100 years, and is unique to St. James Parish; and,
WHEREAS, tourists come to St. James Parish during the Christmas bonfire season to witness this tradition, with an economic impact exceeding $50,000; and,
WHEREAS, the soaring cost of liability insurance could threaten this great tradition; and,
WHEREAS, Representative Robert "Bobby" Faucheux has filed House Bill 588 to establish a limit of liability while viewing bonfires, which would duplicate other caps within the State of Louisiana, and thereby preserve this wonderful tradition.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby support House Bill 588, which provides a limitation of liability for loss related to the presentation of Bonfires on the Mississippi River Levee.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to Governor Mike Foster, Senator Joel T. Chaisson, II, and Representative Gary L. Smith, Jr.
