IN   RECOGNITION

WHEREAS,                     fire departments across the State of Louisiana are rated every five years by the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana (PIAL) and this rating is used by property insurers to gauge the rates charged to citizens for each area; and,

WHEREAS,                     St. Rose Volunteer Fire Department was recently evaluated and advised that the protection class for the District has improved from Public Protection Class 4 to Class 3 which will result in a decrease in the fire insurance rates for many insured commercial and residential properties in the District; and,

WHEREAS,                     the basic rating is based on several factors; on the fire department side they are rated on record keeping, including fire reports, training records, equipment maintenance, equipment inventory, fire hose testing, and fire engine pump testing.  Each apparatus must be inspected and have a minimum of equipment to qualify for service and to gain points toward a better rating.  The department must also respond with certain equipment to all calls to gain points, and also with each piece of equipment that responds, there is a manpower requirement for each; and,

WHEREAS,                     firefighters are required to attend certain training evolutions and also complete ongoing training to maintain their status.  St. Rose Volunteer Fire Department has many members certified in different levels such as Firefighting, Pump Operations, Aerial Operations, Haz-Mat, Fire Officer, Investigations, Inspections, and First Responder through LSU and Alabama Fire Colleges.  All of these completed during a rating period added points to their rating, in this case 2011 thru 2015; and,

WHEREAS,                     Public Protection Class 3 Rating was achieved by many hard working hours and the unselfish dedication of the 100% volunteer St. Rose Volunteer Fire Department.
