Proclamation: National Kidney Month in St. Charles Parish

P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, there are an estimated 37 million Americans with kidney disease - that is one out of every seven or 15% of the adult population; and,
WHEREAS, 33% of American adults in the United States are at risk for kidney disease - that is one in every three; and,
WHEREAS, kidney disease is the 9th leading cause of death in the U.S. and it is growing in prevalence; and,
WHEREAS, in Louisiana, there are over 460,000 diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, over 16,000 on dialysis, and 1,800 waiting for a lifesaving kidney transplant; and,
WHEREAS, Louisiana ranks number one per capita in incidences of chronic kidney disease because of the high prevalence of high blood pressure and diabetes in our population; and,
WHEREAS, critical attention should be given to this often overlooked health crisis which affects those with major risk factors including diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and a family history of kidney failure; and,
WHEREAS, March is National Kidney Month and March 12, 2020 is World Kidney Day. The National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana is calling on everyone to “Heart Their Kidneys” and get tested if they are at risk.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF MARCH 2020 AS
