Title
A resolution requesting that the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development take the necessary steps needed to raise U. S. Highway 90 at the Paradis Canal in Paradis, St. Charles Parish to provide for continuity of the flood protection system surrounding the Sunset Drainage District.
Body
WHEREAS, the Sunset Drainage District, located in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, encompasses the towns of Des Allemands, Paradis, and Bayou Gauche; and,
WHEREAS, the St. Charles Parish Council and the Sunset Drainage District desires an adequate level of flood protection around the District to protect the residents, properties, and businesses within these communities; and,
WHEREAS, U. S. Highway 90 passes through the Sunset Drainage District; and,
WHEREAS, U. S. Highway 90 is a Hurricane Evacuation Route which will be flooded in the event the Sunset Drainage District floods; and,
WHEREAS, sandbagging across U. S. Highway 90 to protect the District would block the Hurricane Evacuation Route; and,
WHEREAS, the existing elevation of U. S. Highway 90 at the Paradis Canal is inadequate to prevent floodwaters from entering the Sunset Drainage District during storm events.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, request that the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development take the necessary steps needed to raise U. S. Highway 90 at the Paradis Canal in Paradis, St. Charles Parish to provide for continuity of the flood protection system surrounding the Sunset Drainage Distr...
