IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Ms. Margie Eugene Richard is a life-long resident of St. Charles Parish residing in Destrehan, Louisiana. She is the mother of Caprice and Ericker and the mother-in-law of Rodney Clark and Gregory Jackson Sr. and the proud grandmother of five boys: Christopher, Joshua, Gregory Jr., Landon, and Bradford; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Richard is a retired school teacher, teaching in the public school system of Louisiana for 28 years. She received her B.S. Degree from Grambling State University; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Richard is certified in Career Education, Substance Abuse and Prevention Education, Hospital and Prison Ministry, and Ministering to Children of Alcoholic Parents. She received her Missionary's License from Ebenezer Baptist Church and her Degree of Theology from the School of Urban Missions in Gretna, LA; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Richard, a Destrehan activist, was recently recognized for environmental work when she was awarded the 2004 Goldman Environmental Prize, considered the “Nobel Prize for the Environment” given annually to grassroots environmental activists from six geographic areas: Africa, Asia, Europe, Islands and Island Nations, North, South, and Central America; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Richard received this honor on April 19th when she traveled to San Francisco and along with seven other recipients from around the world were recognized for their achievements; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Richard worked diligently for 13 years on an agreement with Shell to buy the homes of the residents in Diamond at a fair price. This work took her around the world making their case to environmental groups and Shell executives; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Richard now spends the bulk of her time operating her full time ministry, which focuses on the Bible teachings on how to live sustainable lives. “W...
