Title
A resolution asking the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development study the feasibility of constructing a center turn lane on a stretch of LA 48, that still remains two lanes, the River Road, in St. Charles Parish, in Destrehan, between Ormond Boulevard and the Hale Boggs Bridge.
Body
WHEREAS, this small stretch of LA 48 between Ormond Boulevard and the Hale Boggs Bridge in Destrehan serves as the main traffic artery for residents of approximately 10 densely populated subdivisions, several business establishments and three schools; and,
WHEREAS, a center turn lane has been installed on a small stretch of this requested area and has benefited the area residents; and,
WHEREAS, this is a very congested area during work hour traffic and school traffic resulting in a dangerous environment for the traffic turning onto LA 48 or off of LA 48; and,
WHEREAS, this is an evacuation route for school, business and residents of the area; and,
WHEREAS, numerous accidents have occurred on this congested highway strip.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby request that the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development study the feasibility of constructing a center turn lane on a stretch of LA 48, that still remains two lanes, the River Road, in St. Charles Parish, in Destrehan, between Ormond Boulevard and the Hale Boggs Bridge.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Senator Joel T. Chaisson, II, and Representative Gary L. Smith, Jr., asking that they support and take whatever steps are necessary to expedite this feasibility study.
