TRIBUTE
District II, Councilman Shelley M. Tastet, is a native and lifelong resident of Luling. He is married to Mary Tully and they are the proud parents of two children, Brooks and Gretchen, and two grandchildren, Mason and Cullen, and one great grandchild, Hayden.
Councilman Tastet was first elected to the St. Charles Parish Council on November 17, 2007 as the District II Councilman and was re-elected to a second term on October 22, 2011. He is a graduate of Hahnville High School and attended Nicholls State University. He served two years in the United States Army and retired from Occidental Chemical Company after devoting 35 years of service.
Councilman Tastet served as a member of the Lafourche Levee Board for the past eight years where he was involved with helping to expedite the process of the West Bank Hurricane Protection Levee Project and served on the Hospital Service District Board as Council Ex-Officio.
Councilman Tastet served as Chairman of the Hurricane Protection Projects Committee and served as a member of the Operations, Maintenance, and Construction Management Committee, Legislative Committee, Contract/Finance and Administrative Committee, Special Projects/Public Safety, Health, and Environmental Committee, the Louisiana Police Jury Association, and the National Association of County Officials.
Councilman Tastet was instrumental in the development of the animal shelter project. His ability to convince others of the importance of caring for and protecting homeless, sick, and abused animals was one of the main reasons the new shelter became a reality. His dedication will always be appreciated by the people of St. Charles Parish, current and future staff members of the shelter, and all of God's little creatures that will pass through the animal shelter.
We want to thank Councilman Tastet for his dedication...
