Title
A resolution to request that the Louisiana State Legislature authorize a referendum election in St. Charles Parish to allow Riverboat Gaming Operations and Activities.
Body
WHEREAS, St. Charles Parish is currently not allowed to host Riverboat Gaming Operations and Activities due to the election of November 5, 1996; and,
WHEREAS, interest is being expressed in relocating some of the currently licensed riverboat gaming facilities to other areas of the State; and,
WHEREAS, after over eleven years of Riverboat Gaming in Louisiana, it is appropriate for the residents of St. Charles Parish to be granted the opportunity to again vote on Riverboat Gaming Operations and Activities; and,
WHEREAS, allowing a vote on Riverboat Gaming would provide an opportunity to generate additional revenue for local government without taxing the citizens of St. Charles Parish, while providing for needed public services and improvements; and,
WHEREAS, in order to allow for such election, the Louisiana State Legislature must adopt authorizing legislation; and,
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Parish Council to request said legislation and allow the citizens of St. Charles Parish to vote on this issue.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby request that the Louisiana State Legislature adopt legislation to authorize a referendum election in St. Charles Parish to allow Riverboat Gaming Operations and Activities to be permitted.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, Senator Joel T. Chaisson, II, Representative Gary L. Smith, Jr., and Representative Ernest D. Wooton.
