Title
A resolution requesting the Parish President along with St. Charles Parish Economic Development and Tourism Department Director to actively pursue and invite Holy Cross High School to relocate its campus in St. Charles Parish.
Body
WHEREAS, Holy Cross High School was founded in 1879 by the Congregation of the Holy Cross and is presently still owned by the Catholic Religious Order; and,
WHEREAS, Holy Cross High School has educated children of Catholic families for generations and was located in the Lower 9th Ward; and,
WHEREAS, Holy Cross High School was heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina, which pushed several feet of water over its 17 acre campus on the Mississippi River just below the Industrial Canal; and,
WHEREAS, after Hurricane Katrina more than 350 Holy Cross students attended classes at Cabrini High School in New Orleans and on January 17th transferred back to their original campus in modular classrooms with an expected enrollment of at least 500 in grades five through 12; and,
WHEREAS, for the past few decades the school has attracted students commuting from all over the metropolitan area, with many students coming from the River Parish Area; and,
WHEREAS, St. Charles Parish, the Parish of Plenty, has so much to offer in connection with a relocation to this Parish, offering a more centralized location to metro New Orleans, Jefferson, and the River Parishes; and,
WHEREAS, relocation to a centralized location could possibly mean increase in enrollment as well as offering the Students of St. Charles Parish the option of a Catholic High School education.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby request the Parish President along with St. Charles Parish Economic Development and Tourism Department Director to actively pursue and invite Holy Cross High School to relocate its c...
