Title
A resolution to recommend a nominee to the Mayor of the City of New Orleans for interim appointment to the New Orleans Aviation Board representing St. Charles Parish.
Body
WHEREAS, the New Orleans Aviation Board included one member representing St. Charles Parish for more than thirty years; and,
WHEREAS, the St. Charles Parish Council passed Resolution No. 5927 on July 23, 2012, designating the St. Charles Parish representative on the New Orleans Aviation Board for the term of July 1, 2012 through July 1, 2017, and requesting the Mayor of the City of New Orleans to appoint and the New Orleans City Council confirm the designee; and,
WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of New Orleans instituted legal action in the matter entitled Mitchell J. Landrieu, Mayor of the City of New Orleans v. St. Charles Parish Council, et.als., Orleans Parish Civil District Court, No. 2012-D/16 (“Landrieu v. St. Charles Parish”), over the provisions of the 1985 Airport Extension Agreement pertaining to appointment of a St. Charles Parish Representative to the New Orleans Aviation Board, which is still pending; and,
WHEREAS, the Louis Armstrong International Airport operates in and over St. Charles Parish thus it is in the public interest of the citizens of St. Charles Parish for St. Charles Parish to have immediate representation on the New Orleans Aviation Board; and,
WHEREAS, major decisions and plans are being made by the New Orleans Aviation Board concerning the future of the Louis Armstrong International Airport and its expansion that greatly impact the residents of St. Charles Parish; and,
WHEREAS, it is in the interest of St. Charles Parish to request the Mayor of the City of New Orleans and the New Orleans City Council to immediately appoint and confirm a resident of St. Charles Parish to serve as an interim St. Charles Parish representative on the New Orleans Aviation Board until final resolutio...
