Proclamation: "Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month"

P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative brain disorder that tragically robs individuals of their memories and leads to progressive mental and physical impairments; and,
WHEREAS, Alzheimer's is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States and is the only cause of death in the top ten that currently cannot be prevented, has no cure, and no way to slow its progression; and,
WHEREAS, more than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's and by 2050, this number could rise as high as 16 million; and,
WHEREAS, researchers around the world continue their efforts to develop scientific discoveries that could one day bring about a world without Alzheimer's disease; and,
WHEREAS, with early detection and diagnosis, individuals and their families can gain access to treatment medications, enroll in critical research trials, fully participate in planning for the future, and receive help and support from the Alzheimer's Association; and,
WHEREAS, there is a need to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease and to honor all the caregivers who support and care for loved ones suffering with it.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF JUNE 2018 AS
"ALZHEIMER'S AND BRAIN AWARENESS MONTH"
IN ST. CHARLES PARISH AND ENCOURAGE ALL CITIZENS TO TAKE PART IN THE LONGEST DAY(r) CAMPAIGN, THURSDAY, JUNE 21, 2018, BY TAKING THE PURPLE PLEDGE AND WEARING THE COLOR PURPLE ON THIS DAY TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE.
