IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Evelyn Carter is a native of Destrehan and a student at Harry Hurst Middle School; and,
WHEREAS, as a member of Norco Girl Scout Troop 20179 for the past four years, Evelyn has been instilled with courage, confidence, and character to make the world a better place; and,
WHEREAS, on a July day in 2019 at 10 years old, Evelyn, a strong swimmer participating in an aquatic fitness class at a community pool, saw a seven-year old boy jump off of the diving board and struggle to tread water. She then lifted the young boy up from the water and quickly brought him to the side of the pool safely where an instructor assisted in pulling him from the water; and,
WHEREAS, Evelyn’s decisive action saved the young boy’s life; and,
WHEREAS, for her heroic actions, Evelyn was nominated by her Troop Leader Hollie Pfister, for the Girl Scouts USA Medal of Honor Award, one of the highest honors a Girl Scout can earn; and,
WHEREAS, on February 9, 2021, Evelyn became the second Girl Scout from Louisiana East in the history of its Council to be bestowed with the Girl Scouts USA Medal of Honor Award for her act of heroism beyond the degree of maturity and training expected for her age.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this tribute and recognition to
