IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Katie Marie Hymel is a resident of St. Charles Parish residing in Destrehan, Louisiana with her parents Edward and Danielle Hymel; and,
WHEREAS, Katie is a 2011 graduate of Destrehan High School and currently attends the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute at Nicholls State University, majoring in Culinary Arts with a pastry concentration; and,
WHEREAS, Katie is a member of Phi Mu Fraternity, Nicholls State Orientation team, Ambassador team, and GREEN club, and the St. Charles Borromeo Retreat Team; and,
WHEREAS, Katie is the recipient of the TOPS scholarship, received the Phi Mu Fraternity GPA award, the St. Timothy award, and the Knights of Columbus award; and,
WHEREAS Katie was crowned Miss Little Red Church representing the St. Charles Borromeo Church and school community, and was crowned Miss Festival of Charities raising awareness for Down Syndrome and volunteering for charities such as The Arc of St. Charles, Down Syndrome Association of Greater New Orleans, and many more; and,
WHEREAS, Katie participated in Wetland Watchers, the Disney College Program, Mexico Mission Trip (2 years), volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul gift donations, Ormond nursing home, and attended the March for Life in Washington D.C. (2 years); and,
WHEREAS, Katie enjoys crafting, baking, scuba diving, traveling and experiencing new cultures, and trying new restaurants with friends and family; and,
WHEREAS, on Sunday, August 3, 2014, Katie was crowned the 56th Miss Queen at the Annual St. Charles Parish Festival Pageant held at Sacred Heart School in Norco; and,
WHEREAS, Katie will represent the parish at the 2014 Louisiana Sugar Cane Festival pageant on September 24-28, 2014, in New Iberia and also at several fairs and festivals throughout Louisiana.
